A Card and a Challenge

Wow! I can't believe it's Wednesday already. This week has just flown by as well as the summer. Summer Card Camp 2 is almost over as well. It's been a few days since I posted any homework. Ok...five days...but I've found this week's sketches and color scheme really difficult for me. Typically the ideas start in right away and I can't wait to get started. Not so much.

I finally sat down today determined to conquer my creative block. I actually really like the colors, it's the sketches I struggled with. The color scheme we were given was two shades of brown, two shades of purple and an aqua color. I chose the last of three sketches which as you can see on the card, follow on the diagonal. For the three circles under the sentiment I decided to do flowers. I actually learned this stamping technique in another online card class while back and love it still.

I took Jennifer McGuire's advice and tried to use small amounts of the colors that I was having difficulty working in and I think it turned out ok. What do you think?

Simple copic coloring and a white gel pen and we are back in business...I hope.

Hope everyone else out there is having a great time with this week's challenge. It's definitely taught me to think outside of my comfort zone and still have fun.

Bold Bright Butterfly

I am finally back. This week has been a busy one with lots of family. My son is off to Japan for a couple of years so our house was full with well wishers.

I chose to pattern this card after the third of three card sketches we had to choose from this week. I took my lead from Julie Ebersol and flipped the sketch around. The color scheme was a couple of different shades of green, a turquoise color, cream and brown. I chose to leave out the cream color and use white for the card base instead. I did cheat somewhat and added a touch of yellow to the butterfly.

I had SO MUCH fun coloring this butterfly. I colored him while my family watched a movie and it took the whole time. I tried the technique of flicking two different copic markers from opposite ends to come up with a third color in the center. It was a lot of fun.

I also did the paint splatters using the tips out of couple of Dylusion spray bottles and flicking it over the card base. I love the bright color. Color makes me happy. Have I said that before? I do have one very stained finger so I'll have improve on my method a little.

In this close up of the butterfly my obsession with the white gel pen surfaces again. Of course I also used some liquid pearls and white enamel accents on the tips as well as Stardust Stickles for some glamour.

Mint Chocolate Chip Cupcake

A quick card share today.

If you haven't noticed, I've done a LOT of birthday cards lately. Partly because my daughter's birthday is this week so birthdays are on my mind. Also, I seem to go through phases and I'm in the mood to beef up my birthday card stash so that's what I've been doing. I haven't posted a card using the Simon Says Stamp July Card Kit yet and it is perfect for birthdays. I definitely wanted to try out that adorable cupcake stamp. I've also been in the mood for chocolate and I hadn't seen any mint chocolate chip cupcakes so that is the direction I went.

I'm always surprised how much I love the white against the Kraft and wonder why I don't do it more often. The white heat embossing, vellum, and the faux stitching soften the over all look. The Impression Obsession Fluff background stamp is one of my favorites when I want to go for a tone on tone look.

I added Star Dust Stickles to the cupcake frosting and than I went over the chocolate sprinkles again after the glitter dried to darken the color. You can see the difference between the two pictures.

Go Bananas

Just a quick card to share this morning. This fun little guy came together quicklly with several odds and ends laying around on my crafting desk. Sometimes that just happens and I love it when it does. He's so cute, I just had to share him.

He is a hodge podge of Lawn Fawn, Avery Elle, HEro Arts and Impression Obsession and so cute I just want to feed him another banana. I think my nephew will love him.

Here's a little peek of the inside.

Thinking of You in Yummy Colors

Yea! It's Friday and I am so happy about that. I love the weekends when the family is all together.

Here is my card for today. I was so happy to check in with my online card class this morning and find fun and new color schemes to choose from. I chose pink, yellow, grey, and aqua. I wasn't sure how the colors would work but found that sometimes giving yourself a challenge helps you create something you wouldn't have otherwise...and you like it!

I went back to the same sketch as Monday's card. It just seems to be my favorite. I used Stamp my Story, Brush along with a variety of coordinating paper pieces for the edge of the card. I love this sentiment from Simon Says Stamp and find I use it frequently. "Thinking of you" sentiments are great for versatility.

The colored inks are Hero Arts Shadow Inks: Soft Granite, Butter Bar, Mint Julep, and Bubblegum.

Have a wonderful weekend!
